Tecnatom South Africa’s nuclear programme

Tiempo de lectura: < 1 minuto

The Koeberg nuclear power plant,  owned by the company Eskom, is located 30 km from Cape Town, on the west coast of South Africa and has  two   pressurized   water  reactors   (PWR) each with 970 MW power, it began operations in 1984.

The plant is currently undergoing a programme to extend its service life and has had the support of Tecnatom to carry out habitability tests in its control rooms.

What is habitability testing?

This testing consists of verifying, through the tracking of gas samples, that the plant’s operating room complies with required sealing criteria according to the corresponding standards, which is essential in order to obtain an extended operating license.

For this project, one of Tecnatom’s specialist sealing testing groups inspected the entire nuclear power plant to observe the full status of the systems, to then subsequently carry out the testing.

For these activities, Tecnatom is supported by its local partner, Lesedi, a close associate of ours who has provided services to Koeberg for over 20 years.
