The inauguration ceremony of the simulator for Group I of the Almirante Álvaro Alberto nuclear power plant in Angra dos Reis took place at the Eletronuclear facilities in Mambucaba (Brazil) in February.
The event was attended, among others, by the Chairman of Eletronuclear (Pedro Figueiredo), the directors of operations and sales (João Carlos da Cunha Bastos) and planning, management and the environment (Leonam dos Santos Guimarães) and the superintendents of Angra 1 (Abelardo Vieira) and operations coordination (Edmundo Selvatici). Attending in representation of Tecnatom were the General Manager (Javier Guerra) and the directors of safety, operation and training (Francisco Sánchez) and business strategy and corporate development (Juan Ortega), in addition to the Director of Tecnatom do Brasil (Carlos Otton) and several colleagues from the Brazilian subsidiary.
During the ceremony a commemorative plaque was unveiled at the entrance to the building and the Eletronuclear representatives expressed their gratitude to Tecnatom for the work performed, underlining the degree of integration of the Spanish and Brazilian teams as one of the keys to the success of the project.
A full-scope simulator is a tool that provides enormous potential, allowing plant safety, efficiency and availability to be increased. It may be used for a variety of purposes, from the initial and on-going training of operating personnel to support for design engineering and the modification of plant systems. To date, the personnel of Angra group 1 used the simulators of similar plants for training, such as the Almaraz simulator that Tecnatom has installed at its headquarters in San Sebastián de los Reyes, which was adapted by means of a special load for this Brazilian plant.
