The 15th International Nuclear Marathon organised by WONUC (World Council of Nuclear Industry Workers) concluded on Saturday September 25th after nine days, the underlying aim being to provide support for the continued operation of the Santa María de Garoña nuclear power plant.

As part of its commitment to the industry, and especially to the Garoña plant, Tecnatom provided supported for the organisation in logistical matters and also collaborated in the final stage, which included a visit to our company.

This stage started at 10 o’clock in the morning at Tecnatom and finished at Paseo de la Castellana-Cuatro Torres, a distance of 15 kilometres. From here a multitudinous stage started at 11 o’clock, with the participation of almost 400 runners from the 15 countries that took part in this edition of the Nuclear Marathon, among them an important representation of Tecnatom workers.

Almost 2,000 people, the majority workers from the Spanish nuclear industry and the Garoña plant in Burgos, greeted the participants on their arrival at the Plaza Neptuno in Madrid.

Here, José Ramón Torralbo, Director of the Garoña nuclear power plant, thanked all those present for their solidarity and read out a manifesto defending the peaceful use of nuclear energy and the continued operation of the Garoña nuclear power plant. This manifesto was handed over on passing the Ministry of Industry.
The international Nuclear Marathon got under way at the Garoña plant on September 17th and has covered a total 350 kilometres in different stages. The event also included a five-a-side football tournament in which Tecnatom was present.
