Acceptance of the Herbin Inspection System.

The acceptance of the inspection system installed at the Harbin Hafei Airbus Composite Manufacturing Centre factory in the Chinese city of Harbin has been successfully completed.  This system uses both transmission and pulse-echo techniques to inspect different composite components, as a result of which everything is ready for entry into production.

Incorporation of a resident Tecnatom engineer at EPRI.

On April 1st 2011, our engineer Xavier Xardí joined the EPRI “Materials Reliability Program” project in Palo Alto, California, as a “Resident Researcher. As is already known, in December 2004 Tecnatom and UNESA signed an Agreement, subsequently extended in 2007, for our company to act as a technology Center of Reference (CoR) in different areas of R&D, among them inspection techniques, materials fatigue, maintenance, radiological protection, instrumentation and control, assets management, severe accidents, human factors and advanced reactors.

Tecnatom offers a new system for the ultrasonic and visual inspection of PWR plant vessel nozzles, which will shortly be used during the 21st refuelling outage at Ascó NPP group 1

The ultrasonic inspection of the dissimilar metal nozzle – safe end and safe end – primary circuit piping welds in pressurised water reactors (PWR) is carried out within the framework of application of guideline MRP-139, issued by EPRI, relating to the establishment of new recommendations regarding the surveillance of areas of Inconel 82/182 existing in the primary circuit.

Authorisation of the Tecnatom Internal Dosimetry Service for the performance of measurements by bioelimination

In December 2010, the Tecnatom Internal Dosimetry Service was authorised by the Nuclear Safety Council to perform measurements by means of bioelimination techniques, this complementing the Authorisation obtained in 1988 for the performance of direct Whole Body Counter measurements.

European Framework Programme, CAST

Tecnatom has completed the first phase of the research project CAST (Comparative Assessment of Training Programmes focussing on Safety) within the Seventh European Framework Programme.

From October 25th to 28th, the first phase of testing and training on the Control of Stress through Biofeedback, corresponding to the research project CAST (Comparative Assessment of Training Programmes focussing on Safety) included in the Seventh European Framework Programme, took place at Tecnatom.

New mobile internal personal dosimetry service unit

Since October 1988, the year in which the Internal Personal Dosimetry Service (IPDS) was officially authorised by the Nuclear Safety Council, its Mobile Unit I, equipped with a Quicky III type Whole Body Counter (WBC), has been servicing the Spanish Nuclear Power Plants without interruption during their refuelling outages, as well as the CSN during emergency situations and drills. During 2010, the Mobile Unit has been replaced with a more modern vehicle equipped with new elements.
